A roadmap for innovation in healthcare shows that in healthcare transformation different stakeholders come together with the vision to establish the future of care and to develop new patient-centred evidence-driven health models. Within this transformation of healthcare, rapidly evolving technologies with great potential to make a difference are digital health, big data and precision-health.
Although these technologies promise the development of innovations that would shift traditional healthcare towards different and new healthcare, with real-time methods and the patient at the centre; there remains a lack of true evaluations on whether these innovations improve the quality of care or not.
Nursing researchers are in a privileged position: they are a bridge between the nursing workforce, who are at the frontline of care; and academia, which drives the innovation and research that will later impact society. Hence, the nursing research community has the power to ensure that these new developments impact our healthcare systems and their workforce rightfully, ensuring its successful deployment and achieving meaning transformation.
